    Made in Italy reaches international markets through ecommerce

BACKGROUND

Selle Italia and Selle San Marco are two historic and leading Italian brands in the manufacture of bicycle saddles that are high in both quality and performance, with 120 and almost 90 years of experience behind them respectively. Following careful reflection on its commercial and reputational prospects, the company decided to undertake a digitalization path, strengthening its web presences, and venturing into a new challenge yet to be undertaken: e-commerce.


Selle Italia decided to properly approach the new channel by relying on expert partners and innovative technologies, selecting BigCommerce as a SaaS solution, and the Calicantus team to develop 3 new platforms (Selle Italia, Selle Italia US and Selle San Marco), and to manage online orders.

STRATEGIES AND TOOLS

The first step of the cooperation was collecting all the information needed to develop the project, followed by a careful internal analysis of the mock-ups provided by the partner agency that created the new site's graphics. The Calicantus team thus translated the aesthetic and communication requirements into concrete technological solutions on the SaaS platform identified for the development of the project: BigCommerce.

 

The story of the two brands Selle Italia and Selle San Marco, their history, and the characteristics of their unique offerings, are fundamental to immersing users in the browsing experience. The presentation of the product catalogue is equally important too, as it lets us go into their characteristics in more detail, and guide consumers in choosing just the right article.

 

An essential prerequisite of the entire project was that the management of online orders was outsourced so Calicantus integrated the Selle Italia and Selle San Marco platforms with its own systems and services, taking care of the entire supply chain, from customer care, accounting, product storage and package tracking through to final delivery.

 

Besides the challenging task of setting up the new e-shops and managing their sales, Calicantus was also entrusted with rebuilding the e commerce dedicated to the US market, one of the most interesting international online presences for the company, integrating the platform with the relevant distributor and thus allowing an optimal management of US orders. 


A complex yet exciting project, which involved the Calicantus and Selle Italia team on several fronts. Brilliant ideas, know-how and new partnerships have intertwined, seizing the unique opportunities of digital channels to take all-Italian excellence around the world.
